Ground
Becoming grounded is a common term, but what is really meant? This article explores the psychology and physiology behind ‘groundedness’ and its importance in daily life as well as in therapy.
Boundaries
Boundaries are often talked about concepts that create the difference between your space and mine. They are fundamental in psychological health as they define what is private and public, what is owned or shared and is possessed or defended. This article is a brief exploration of their importance in life and in therapy.
Contact
When we are grounded and have established good boundaries we are able to enjoy pleasurable and productive contact with others. Contact is explored in this article in terms of real interpersonal contact, those moments where two people really meet, as opposed to the more common daily interactions. This is an emotional skill that is vital in life and in good therapy.
Authentic Life
An authentic life naturally springs from contact with your authentic self. This is something that many of us have neglected and forgotten about. However all is not lost, as with good therapy, it can be both discovered and created. A life of purpose and passion is something that you can attain to, but you may have to roll your sleeves up first.
Talks
The Body In the Mind
This article has been adapted from a talk at Stanton Library during its Health Week program. It is an exploration of the subjective body, that is the body that we feel ourselves to be, rather than the objective body, which is measured on the scales and with blood tests. The subjective or personal body exists within the mind, however it is interacting with the real physical body all the time, creating states of wellbeing or states of dis-ease.
Awareness and Presence
Being more alive, awake, perceptive and responsive are just some of the qualities that arise with an increase in awareness and presence. These are words that are commonly used by many people, and here we explore what is really going on behind our lack of awareness and presence and what is required on the road back to a clear and responsive experience of ourselves and others.
Language Metaphor and Self
Our language interacts with our experience of life. The words we choose shape our experience of the world and the world affects the choice of words we use. Through this matrix, we also create a sense of self, also intertwined with words and experience. What is needed then is accuracy in the words we use and understanding of the meanings and experiences we mean. This exploration and discovery is vital for self understanding and therapy in particular.
Pain and Suffering
An article by Charlie Badenhop from his website www.seishindo.org . It is a great reminder of the wake up call that pain and suffering really should be.
